Story Summary:
Set in the village of Bheemanahalli, the story follows Kaatera, who lives with his sister Kumari and brother-in-law Mahadevanna. The villagers suffer under the tyranny of feudal landlords Devaraya and Kaalegowda. With the introduction of the Land Reforms Act, which aims to grant land ownership to tillers, Kaatera emerges as a leader advocating for the farmers’ rights. Kaatera’s personal life intertwines with his activism when he falls in love with Prabhavathi, the educated daughter of Shanubogha. Their relationship faces societal hurdles due to caste differences. As Kaatera challenges the landlords, Devaraya retaliates by sending mercenaries to eliminate him. Kaatera defeats them, but tragedy strikes when Prabhavathi is murdered. In a fit of rage, Kaatera kills Devaraya and is subsequently imprisoned.
